Sortie 13, Pessac (33) jeudi 11 octobre 2018.

Marry me !

English version : thank you JJ !

Thank you Action Jazz for such an amazing live show review. Sortie 13 – Concerts & Expositions was an amazing experience last night for us as well! Thank you for “getting” me and the bad men so very well! Cheers! (For my English speaking followers, I have taken the liberty to translate the review below.) ❤️

Let’s talk about blues and soul today. Jennifer Jenesis Thames, remember this name, with this damn « th » which poses so many problems to our French-speaking languages, JJ for all the intimates that form its audience. She was last night at Sortie 13 in the black room, ideal gauge for this type of concert. To see her closely, to read on her face, to see her move without a distance or screen filter. Presented as the new Mississippi diva, she is from Detroit, Motor City, the city of Motown, from which she had to catch some genes. Then departure with a pastor father – the gospel is there too – to Jackson Mississippi where nearly 20 years ago she made her debut in blues and soul. She then left to try her luck in New York as a chorister, including Fishbone, but the case ends up bad, personal problems, health she finds herself on the street before heading south and revive his career. First album in 2014 and another in 2016 « Raw Sugar » she will play part tonight with other titles like « Boom Boom » or a « Summertime » twisted in all directions.Opulent singer is the least we can say on her arrival on stage and immediately an absolutely phenomenal presence. A faux Serena look and a Hendrix t-shirt is a good sign. The voice of course, how not to think of Tina, the expressiveness of the face, hands, arms, body, almost a theatricality. She does not sing, she tells stories singing, enchanting! The disappointed loves, the separations, the prayers for the return of the loved one but always a touch of second degree, humor, she plays.Homeric duels with his guitarist Yann Cuyeu, yes a French guitar hero, formidable blues-soul-rocker man.Let’s talk about the band, formed by drummer Fabrice Bessouat (Malled Milk, Nico Wayne Toussaint …) with Cédric Legoff (Malted Milk, Flying Saucers …) on keyboards and Kris Jefferson on bass; yes French, even if the last who lives near Pau is American. We know how to play blues and soul at home, believe me, they were breathtaking. Solos of guitars to fall; an alternation of piano sounds, of very thick organ, of Rhodes; an unstoppable bass line and an impeccable drumming, with a visible joy of playing. With this crew JJ Thames can go all the way, she will not go without! How does she manage to go from frenzy to sweetness, emotion so quickly? She saw the thing, she gives herself totally, speaks to us singing, and points to us, « Marry me! Marry me! We ask, she is there with us not in front of us. Personally I had never heard or seen anything like this in this blues soul. I’m not the only one, the public finishes KO standing but with a smile even asking, but JJ gave everything, the last title was monumental energy, finesse, change of tone. She has sung, spoken, cried out to her lover who forsakes her « I’d Rather Go Blind, » I do not want to see that she tells him when he leaves her for another. And behind that sends but it sends, I have chills everywhere! Congratulations to the sound engineer, it was nickel. Go a regret anyway, I would have liked the brass but to think about it if they had been there I would be at this moment orized in the cosmos, so it goes like that.No reminder, yet asked, but we forgive him, we understand after such an animal physical commitment for nearly two hours. But the girl has the resource because it is found (almost) fresh, sweet and quiet, very affordable to sell and dedicate his album two minutes later in the bar!We want more! But my little finger tells me that we will see her soon by home. They were even two at the time but it will finally be on the side of Léognan at Jazz & Blues in June thanks to Jacques Merle. Do not miss it !
